The Olympic Lunch Special
Most of the people who book our trips are organisers of groups where the ages range from mid fifties through to the late eighties and beyond! Suffice to say we don’t put together days out for spring chickens and as such all of our trips are designed for folk who like to see a lot without walking too far. You book your own coach locally and plan your departure times to get you to us for 11-45am. We are going to begin with a tasty roast chicken lunch served with everyone sat . Your members will be met by our Blue Badge Guide at this 200-year-old pub to settle down ready for lunch at noon. After lunch coffee is served (which is included in the tour fee) and anyone who wants to can buy a dessert and/or bar drinks.
We’ll set off to begin a really entertaining and eye-opening afternoon that will show you the lie of land in terms of the 2012 Games. First we’ll take you (by coach) up to Woolwich Common where the recently restored Artillery Barracks and the longest parade ground in the world will form the backdrop to the Olympic shooting events. As we drop back down to the river we glimpse marvellous views over London including Greenwich where the equestrian events will be and the old Millennium Dome which next year will see slinky rhythmic gymnasts rub shoulders with lanky basketball players there for the Olympic final. That'll make for some interesting romances!
We’ll cross the mighty river Thames to see the ExCel Centre, venue for fighting events from taekwondo to boxing and on through the fascinating East End to Stratford and the Olympic Park. For security reasons no one is allowed inside the park and this will remain the case until after the games themselves – the whole park is on quarantine lockdown but from the coach on the perimeter roads and the you get a really good look at the tremendous scale of developments that are turning a neglected area of the London hinterlands into a series or world class venues that next year four billion viewers worldwide will tune into. It really is breathtaking and it will make you grin with a rare pride. The vast Olympic Stadium is almost complete, the Velodrome is ready to rumble and nearby the Athletes Village and the delicious butterfly cake roof of the Aquatic Centre and the Dunlopillo bed shaped Basketball Arena complete the landscape. It all looks increasingly like an illustration of a futuristic city from a 1950s encyclopaedia!
To round off a thoroughly entertaining afternoon we will stop to buy tea before you set off at 4-45/5-00pm so that we can steal a march on the London rush-hour.
To help you organise your folk we also offer a free A3 or A4 colour poster to help promote the trip to your members. The poster personalises the day with your group name and tour date at the top and space at the bottom for you to add your ticket prices, contact numbers and pickups & timings for the day. Walking kept to a minimum, with chance for individuals to stretch their legs. Available weekdays except for 25 July to 9 September 2012. Adults & Seniors:
£18.95 Coach Mileage: Please note that this tour is not officially endorsed by, or in any way associated with, the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, the Olympic Development Authority or the Olympic and/or Paralympic Movement more generally.
